In the series They Insist, color and form bear witness to the construction and accumulation of time, space and memory. Meaning is generated through contradiction: chaos and order, presence and absence, concealment and exposure. Play becomes crucial in the process of juxtaposing distinct elements to see how they work together.
A growing preoccupation with notions of space has become central in the work. I am interested in pushing—and expanding—the idea of how painting exists—and unfolds—both in and outside the pictorial frame and how this can manifest itself conceptually and formally.
As I continue to play with the space of painting, three-dimensional pieces that stem from elements in the pictorial field have now become part of my oeuvre. Painting’s persistent insistence to push even beyond itself.
